WordPress via the Jetpack plugin publish reports on your blogs which are very interesting.  If you have a WordPress blog and you have not yet installed Jetpack then you really should as there are some great features including the ‘Publicize’ feature where you can auto-update your Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts with your posts.

My 2013 Report

One of the most interesting stats from my 2013 year in photo blogging was that I had about 10,000 views on the Photo Blog in 2013 and the WordPress report states the following.

“The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 10,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

In 2013, there were 13 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 106 posts.

The busiest day of the year was February 16th with 163 views. The most popular post that day was My First Fox Photo – Photo of the Week.”

The reason the date above was so busy was that the Queen Guitarist , Dr. Brian May, re-tweeted the link to this post (see photo below) and the post went viral on Twitter in the following 24-48 hours.

The 2012 Report

The only disappointing stat was that only 13 blog posts were made in 2013 compared to 50 in 2012.

The report from 2012 stated that 4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 17,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 4 Film Festivals

In 2012, there were 50 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 96 posts.

The busiest day of the year was February 20th with 199 views. The most popular post that day was International Space Station Pictured over new Waterford Bridge.

On this occasion the image below was re-tweeted on Twitter via Virtual Astronomer and again this went viral.

The number of visitors for 13 posts when compared to the number for 50 posts shows the overall importance of continual posting of blog posts. Content is King !
